White Hats!
Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the LORD and honored his name.
"They will be mine," says the LORD Almighty, "in the day when I make up my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as in compassion a man spares his son who serves him. And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.
Malachi 3:16-18
There was a time when it was easy to see the difference between the “good guy” and the “bad guy” in a movie. The good guy not only wore a white hat, but he did not get drunk and shoot people unnecessarily. The bad guy wore black and did the other things that identified him as a “bad guy.” It was also true that no matter how hard the struggle the “good guy” would always win. What we saw depicted on the silver screen was how GOOD would overcome EVIL.
Then came the “Johnny Cash Revolution” where the good guy would also wear black. (Please understand I am not saying something bad about Johnny Cash.) When the good guy could also wear black then it became harder to tell the difference in “good and evil.”
Now, there is no way to tell the difference by outward appearance between the good guy and the bad guy. In fact, today in the movies the “good guys” are the same as the “bad guys” with perhaps one honorable motive around which a story is built.
Malachi says there is coming a time when we will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not. There will be no confusion. None of the wicked will be wearing white hats or riding white horses!
