Who is the Notorious Prostitute?

“After this I heard something like the loud voice of a vast multitude in heaven, saying: ‘Hallelujah! Salvation, glory, and power belong to our God, because His judgments are true and righteous, because He has judged the notorious prostitute who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality; and He has avenged the blood of His slaves that was on her hands.’”

Revelation 19:1-2

I have never heard someone claim that they were born a prostitute. The very term implies that something good was turned into something bad. Whoever this nation is, which the Holy Spirit calls a "notorious prostitute" must have at one time been a wonderful and beautiful nation. It must have been "God fearing" and established on Biblical principles. This finally corrupt nation must have been a truth seeking and generous nation and a beacon of light to the world. But then, as in the life of all who are called "prostitutes" there came a moment of truth when truth was sold for a single moment of pleasure. Like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal, this nation looked at pleasure and chose pleasure over God!

Who is, or was, or will be this "notorious prostitute?" The Bible does not say, but there is a great truth in this passage for all nations. Any nation can sell it's birthright for comfort or pleasure. It begins with one rebellious generation and the next one completes the transformation.

Don't forget that prostitution is one bad decision followed by another and another.
