The Flood of God’s Wrath!
You disgraceful nation, gather around, before it's too late. The LORD has set a time when his fierce anger will strike like a storm and sweep you away. If you humbly obey the LORD, then come and worship him. If you do right and are humble, perhaps you will be safe on that day when the LORD turns loose his anger.
Zephaniah 2:1-3
Most children, at some point have an imaginary friend. It is cute to see a small child playing with and conversing with an imaginary friend. It is a great way to practice language and even social skills. But when the imaginary friend is still there when the child becomes an adult an imaginary friend becomes a diagnosable illness.
For many, if not most Christians in the West, Jesus is simply an imaginary friend. We talk about Him and even pray to Him, but in our hearts we believe He is not really there! It is not something that we would readily confess even to ourselves. An imaginary Jesus works quite well when there is nothing required or expected from Him. We don’t expect to see Him actually doing anything in today’s world. We have Jesus as a role model and a reason to join together with other nice folks while we do some good in the world in the name of Jesus.
Zephaniah 3 speaks of a disgraceful nation. The word disgraceful means “so bad or unacceptable that it should be something to be ashamed of.” Are there nations that should be ashamed of the things they have done?
Zephaniah also says that the LORD has set a time when his fierce anger will strike like a storm and sweep that nation away.
God will turn loose His anger against a nation that has turned away from Him. It has never failed.
So if your nation seems to be coming under the judgment of God, if your leaders are acting like children without common sense, and you know that Jesus is not imaginary, then humbly obey the Lord. Come and worship Him and do right.
When the flood of God’s wrath comes mankind will either sink or swim. But if you know the Lord, when the flood comes you can walk on water with Jesus!
