It Won’t Be Long!
3First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation."
10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
2 Peter 3:3-4 & 10
When I arise on the morning of the day the Lord returns there are only three attitudes I can have. I can begin that day by acknowledging that this may be the day of my Lord’s return, by scoffing and believing that there is no way this could be the day when Jesus sets foot again on this earth, or by ignoring the possibility altogether.
Most people, including many Christians begin each day without a thought about the return of Jesus. It is the farthest thing from their minds. These people and “believers” spend more time thinking about Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny than they do about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. It is a part of the Bible narrative that has made no impact on their lives. They esteem Jesus to be like one of our political leaders who speaks words without truth and makes promises that are never intended to be kept!
Then there are the scoffers. Scoffers deride the Bible because they do not experience the truths of Scripture. Men without faith in God are allowed to continue in their ignorance of Him. With the amazing patterns of Creation clearly visible they believe that no one designed or created anything. The logic of scoffers is quite lacking. But scoffing at God and His Word provides a diversion from obvious truth.
Finally, there are those who arise and plan their day around the imminent return of Jesus Christ. If you could decide where you would be and what you would be doing when the Trumpet sounds and Jesus appears in the sky where would that be and what would you be doing? Whatever the answer is to that question, go there today and do that today! Like a child waiting for his father to come home at the end of the day stands at the window hoping to see his father return, we must watch and wait for Jesus to return.
The Andrea Crouch song said it well. “It won’t be long till we’ll be leaving here!”
