Set Your Heart!

You have been raised to life with Christ. Now set your heart on what is in heaven, where Christ rules at God's right side. Think about what is up there, not about what is here on earth.

Colossians 3:1-2

When a young man “sets his heart” on a certain young woman he will do almost anything to win her affection. His actions are dictated daily by the direction of his heart. All through the day he is reminded of her and is continually thinking about how he can satisfy her every whim. In fact, he puts everything about her above the rest of his life.

When a follower of Jesus “sets his heart on what is in heaven” his actions are dictated by the direction of his heart. All through the day he is continually thinking about he can satisfy the One who is sitting on the throne of Heaven. In fact, he puts Jesus above everything else in his life!

The really important question for a follower of Jesus Christ is not “Am I doing the right things for God?” The important question is “Is my heart set on Him?” If my heart is set on the things of this world then I will never be able to do the things that will please Jesus. If my heart is set on Jesus then I will not have the time, energy or will to do the things that please the world.

So it really is a matter of the heart. Set your heart on Jesus and your actions will follow. Set your heart on the world and your actions will follow.

If you want to test this in a small area of life, set your heart on getting a kitten. Then keep a diary for a month. Be sure and use a red pen on the day your kitten arrives in your house. If you set your heart on Jesus and the things in heaven the rest of life will take its proper place. If you set your heart on the world you will never be able to put Jesus on the throne of your life!

It is time to “SET YOUR HEART ON HEAVEN!”
