Help With Your Cross!

Simon from Cyrene happened to be coming in from a farm, and they forced him to carry Jesus’ cross. Simon was the father of Alexander and Rufus.

Mark 15:21

The fact that Simon was forced to carry the cross of Jesus speaks volumes to those who will dare to listen.

Jesus did not carry His Cross all the way to Calvary. He either broke down under the load or for some unknown reason was not allowed to carry it. Jesus’ burden of the Cross was shared by Simon of Cyrene. In this, as in everything we read about in the life of Jesus there is an example for us. The power of the Cross was not because Jesus carried it all the way to Calvary. He did not! The power of the Cross was manifested because Jesus died on it.

If your cross is hard to carry, let someone else help you bear it. Your cross is not a load to make you stronger; it is a place where you die to this world. Jesus could have carried His Cross for 2000 years without purchasing one lost sinner. It was in Jesus’ death and resurrection where the power of the Cross was displayed.

The lesson is simple. Others can and should help you carry your cross, but you alone must die on it. It is how we finally become like Jesus!
