Are We There Yet?

"Behold, I am coming soon! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy in this book."

Revelation 22:7

The impatience of a child on a trip is well known. My oldest son memorialized the impatience of his children with a vanity car license and on it the letters “There Yet?”

As children of God we exhibit the same tendency. We want to know how soon we will be at our destination. We look for the signs and study the scriptures to see if there are any hints that today may be the day of the Lord! As we untangle our hearts from the pull of this world our attention becomes focused on the next world and the moment when we will transition to it. It is not wrong to set our hearts on things above. However, we must never forget that as long as we are here there is a reason for today and a work that God has prepared for this moment.

Christians need to realize that we are not there yet! We may be there soon and it may be very soon. But for this moment I am still on this earth and there is still work to be done for God.

“Lord, is it a word you want spoken? Is it a meal prepared? Is it a prayer of intercession?”

Whatever it is must not be set aside because the time is near for the return of Jesus. In fact, it is all the more urgent that we be about our Father’s business during these days which may be the final days before the return of Jesus.
