Nation Wrecking!

If you ever forget the LORD your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed. Like the nations the LORD destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the LORD your God.

Deuteronomy 8:19-20

Somehow over the past fifty years the doctrine of “Nation Building” has developed and dominates the international relations of the United States. We have decided that the “ultimate good” is for a people to vote for their leaders and that if they are willing to vote then we are willing to die for their right to do it.

The “fly in the ointment” of this sticky salve is that it truly is more important who they vote for than that they vote. If the people elect a corrupt, Godless and immoral group of leaders then why is that worth fighting for.

We have come to believe that there is an unspoken principal which says if the people are allowed to vote they will make a good decision. So we are willing to bleed and die to build nations that stand in direct opposition to God. How can that be good?

The Bible does not say that God desires that His people build nations. It does say that God destroys nations when they follow other gods, worship and bow down to them.

So these words in Deuteronomy are hard to ignore: Like the nations the LORD destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the LORD your God.
