The Lord said to Moses, "Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live." So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.
Numbers 21:8-9
Some variation of a snake on a pole has become the symbol of modern medicine. The history of it's development is quite interesting and not without controversy, but nevertheless Moses and the experience in the wilderness still touches our world today!
It reminds me of a sign I saw many years ago in the office of the doctor who delivered two of my children. It quite boldly and correctly said, "God does the healing, but I accept the money."
In a real sense the snake on the pole is still saying the same thing. All healing comes from the power and mercy of God Almighty!
There is another snake in the Bible. It is the one that deceived Adam and Eve and then was condemned to slither through the grass on his belly. That snake is still trying to deceive you if he can.
So when you are sick and are seeking to be healed, be sure to look toward the "Snake on a pole" and not a "snake in the grass."
