Listen to this blog.
You know that Christ came to take away sins. He isn’t sinful, and people who stay one in their hearts with him won’t keep on sinning. If they do keep on sinning, they don’t know Christ, and they have never seen him.
Children, don’t be fooled. Anyone who does right is good, just like Christ himself. Anyone who keeps on sinning belongs to the devil. He has sinned from the beginning, but the Son of God came to destroy all that he has done. God’s children cannot keep on being sinful. His life-giving power lives in them and makes them his children, so that they cannot keep on sinning.
1 John 3:5-9
Have you heard the stop smoking ads? The addiction to nicotine is strong and it is not an easy thing to quit. Apparently, the most popular quit smoking plan today is a pill that gradually takes away your desire to smoke. According to the ads there are some pretty serious side effects for some people, but they may be worth the risk to get away from smoking.
How do you stop sinning? I know you say "we all sin." But I'm not talking about being a "second hand smoke" sinner. How do you stop being a "three pack a day sinner?" Sin is addictive, just like nicotine. When you sin once, there is something within you that wants to do it again, and again, until it is all you think about. Just like nicotine sin makes you think that you can't live without doing it. Sin is a vicious cycle that finally ends in death, eternal death!
To stop sinning, you need something or someone to take away the desire. Like an alcoholic looking for the next drink, people who are addicted to sin spend their time searching for the next sin fix. When the desire is gone saying no to sin is not that hard.
The answer to sin is Jesus, and I'm not just talking about the Cross where He died for our sins. Staying one with Jesus in your heart is the answer to the temptation of this day.
Again, John 3:9 says "God's children cannot keep on being sinful. His life-giving power lives in them and makes them his children, so that they cannot keep on sinning."
Think about that the next time you reach for a "Sin."
