Listen to this blog.
Gideon lived to be an old man. And when he died, he was buried in the family tomb in his hometown of Ophrah, which belonged to the Abiezer clan. Soon after Gideon’s death, the Israelites turned their backs on God again. They set up idols of Baal and worshiped Baal Berith as their god. The Israelites forgot that the Lord was their God, and that he had rescued them from the enemies who lived around them.
Judges 8:32-34
I am always amazed at how quickly the Israelites would turn their backs on God. This nation saw miracle after miracle and you would think that being confronted with the power of God on so many occasions, the fear of God would remain. It did not! The arrogance of those who turn their heads from following God is truly bewildering.
It makes no sense, but our rebellious hearts are not persuaded to remain faithful by seeing visible manifestations of the power of God in this world.
Even after more than 50 years of walking with Jesus I am regularly tempted to take a step on another path. I, like the Israelites can tell you of times when the miraculous power of God was the only explanation for a healing, an amazing co-incidence, or any number of circumstances beyond human reason. But even when you stand in the shadow of a miracle, their is a voice that screams "Don't trust God!"
That is the voice of the Enemy of God who cares not how many miracles you have seen. As you grow older in Christ let your ears become deaf to the voice of Satan. Keep your eyes firmly fixed on Jesus and watch the feet of Jesus as you walk, not the path. Don't stop and look around to see where you are. Just keep walking with Jesus. Then one day when He stops you will look up and find yourself in Heaven.
